March 2012: Making Strides!

We have been hard at work spreading the word about the success of the Love/Avon Army of Women and all of you!  We have launched 60 studies since we started in October of 2008, 34 of them have been closed because we provided scientists the participants they needed, 6 within 24 hours!  Another 6 actually ended up increasing the number of participants they wanted, once they found out how easy it was to utilize the Army of Women. We have recruited for 4 international studies, 22 national and 32 regional ones.  On average, we recruit 1,500 new members per month and launch 2 studies.  Quite a record!

Now, we are on a campaign to convince more scientists to refocus the direction of their research.  Dr. Love was at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) this month and met with many people in the Division of Cancer Prevention to discuss the new direction for breast cancer research – prevention and eradication is the key to unlocking the breast cancer secret!  She was also in New York for a talk at the Avon Foundation for Women Breast Cancer Forum and all the wonderful health navigators that work with the Avon Foundation! Many of them are spreading the message about the Army of Women at their local clinics.  Next week, we are heading to the American Association of Cancer Researchers (AACR) annual meeting in Chicago, where we have a panel on the Army of Women, “Crossing the Chasm from Animal Models to Women: the Love/Avon Army of Women”.  Not only will we have some scientists who have worked with the Army of Women program on the panel, but we will feature an Army of Women volunteer and foot soldier from Chicago, Olympia Kalagidis, to discuss how easy it is to be part of the Army of Women! We will be blogging on site and will be keeping all of you updated on the hot new topics around breast cancer.  Please visit the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation website at www.dslrf.org to get the latest updates from the meeting

As always, thank you so much for all your support and for being part of the Army of Women!
