Lifetime Moms Partners with the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation to Educate, Engage & Recruit Mothers to Join an Army of Women for Breast Cancer Prevention Research
This October, the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation (DSLRF) extends its ongoing partnership with Lifetime to include a new campaign with Lifetime Moms (www.lifetimemoms.com) to recruit 25,000 new volunteers to join DSLRF’s Army of Women program to help breast cancer prevention research. To encourage more women to join at www.armyofwomen.org, Lifetime Moms will donate $1.00 to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation for every new volunteer that signs up for the Army of Women through Lifetimemoms.com, with a maximum donation of $25,000.
“Many women are aware that their breast cancer risk is higher if their first pregnancy is after 30. But a lot of women do not realize that 80% percent of women who get breast cancer have none of the known risk factors,” said Dr. Susan Love, M.D., President of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation. “We’re excited to be partnering with Lifetime Moms and their network of mom bloggers because we know it will take an Army of Women to find what causes breast cancer.”
A program of the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, the Army of Women is a unique partnership between researchers at top universities and women who want to help find the cause of breast cancer so we can learn how to prevent it.
The Lifetime Moms Network, made up of the most influential moms, includes the core domain LifetimeMoms.com, a premium editorial site providing diverse content that celebrates, entertains and inspires women who are moms and more as well as an Affiliate Network comprised of nearly 100 individual Mom blogger sites around the US.
To date, the Foundation has recruited nearly 360,000 women (and some men) into the Army of Women program, with over 50,000 of those volunteers engaged in helping 52 breast cancer studies. After signing up at www.armyofwomen.org, members are then contacted via email blast about new studies seeking volunteers. They can either sign-up for the studies online, or if they do not qualify, they are encouraged to forward the information to a friend or family member. Every woman over 18 is welcome to participate, whether a breast cancer survivor or someone never affected.
“Most people don’t realize that its difficult recruiting women for breast cancer research studies and some studies can take years to find qualified volunteers. Our Army of Women program is speeding up the research process by providing a network of nearly 360,000 women that are ready to take part in breast cancer research studies,” said Dr. Love. “We have been able to close many studies in less than 24 hours, but we still need more women of every age and ethnicity to sign up and be part of our revolutionary program.”
Dr. Susan Love will host an exclusive live Ustream video chat focusing on Moms and Pregnancy on October 26 to answer questions about breast cancer that are specific to pregnant women and mothers. Details will be posted on LifetimeMoms.com.
In addition, the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation is an official FIVE Coalition partner of the Lifetime Television original movie event “Five,” an anthology of five short films exploring the impact of breast cancer on people’s lives. The short films are directed by Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Alicia Keys, Penelope Spheeris and Patty Jenkins. “Five” highlights the shared experience each short film’s title character endures from the moment of diagnosis, through an interconnected story arc that uses humor and drama.
